Prayer for Day 8

In the name of the Father, and of the Son, and of the Holy Spirit. Amen.

Opening Prayer:
Dear Lord, we thank You for the many ways You bless and protect our world. We ask You today to take care of all firefighters.

Prayer for Holy Suffering:
The work of fighting fires can be very difficult in many ways. As firefighters work for long hours to put out fires, they often endure physical suffering and emotional trials. Because there is often such suffering involved in fighting fires, firefighters have the opportunity to grow in union with You through their suffering.

Scripture Reading:
"Now I rejoice in what I am suffering for you, and I fill up in my flesh what is still lacking in regard to Christ's afflictions, for the sake of his body, which is the church." (Colossians 1:24)

Our Father, Hail Mary, Glory Be

Closing Prayer:
Please pour out Your grace and assistance on all firefighters, and we particularly ask today that You help all firefighters to grow in the ability to make holy use of their sufferings. In the name of the Father, and of the Son, and of the Holy Spirit. Amen.

Reflection for Today

Today we pray for firefighters to grow in the ability to make holy use of their sufferings. Firefighters endure many types of suffering - physical pain, emotional trauma, exhaustion, and the stress of dangerous situations. But this suffering can be offered to God and united with the sufferings of Christ for the salvation of souls. Colossians 1:24 shows us that suffering can have redemptive value when it is offered to God. Firefighters can offer their sufferings for the people they serve, for their families, for the conversion of sinners, and for the good of the Church. Let us pray that firefighters will learn to make holy use of their sufferings and that they will grow closer to God through their trials.
