Novena for a Good Confession – Day 7: Forgiving Others

Today we pray for the grace to release all resentment and to forgive those who have hurt us, just as we ask God to forgive us.

Today's Focus: Forgiving Others

Jesus taught us to pray: "Forgive us our trespasses as we forgive those who trespass against us." Holding onto anger and resentment can be a block to receiving God's mercy fully. We ask for the grace to let go of our grievances and to pray for those who have offended us, trusting that God's justice and mercy are perfect.

Prayer for Day 7

In the name of the Father, and of the Son, and of the Holy Spirit. Amen.

Opening Prayer:
Heavenly Father, You have forgiven me so much. As I continue this novena, help me to broaden my heart. Show me where I am still holding onto bitterness or nursing old wounds.

Prayer for Forgiving Others:
Lord, I choose to forgive those who have hurt me (name them silently). I release them from any debt I feel they owe me. Grant me the grace to pray for their well-being and to leave all judgment to You. Help me to remember that Your mercy is for everyone, and let my own forgiveness be a reflection of the love You show me every day.

Daily Intention:
Today I pray for the grace to forgive others. I ask God to heal my memories and to fill the space where resentment lived with His peace and charity.

Scripture Reading:
"Bear with each other and forgive one another if any of you has a grievance against someone. Forgive as the Lord forgave you." (Colossians 3:13)

Our Father, Hail Mary, Glory Be

Closing Prayer:
Lord, make me an instrument of Your peace. As I prepare for confession, help me to clear my heart of all unkindness toward others. I bring my intentions to You (mention your intentions here). Amen.

In the name of the Father, and of the Son, and of the Holy Spirit. Amen.

Reflection for Today

Forgiveness is not a feeling; it is a decision of the will. We may still feel the pain of a wound, but we can choose not to act on that pain or seek revenge.

When we refuse to forgive, we are like a person trying to drink a glass of water while holding our breath. We limit our own ability to receive the "living water" of God's grace. Forgiving others sets *us* free more than anyone else.

As you prepare for confession, ask if there is anyone you are still "un-forgiving." Bringing this to God in your prayer today can be a powerful preparation for receiving His own forgiveness in the sacrament.
