On this first day of the Novena for Good Friday, we focus on gratitude. We ask God to help us grow in this virtue as we commemorate Christ's sacrifice on the cross.
Prayer for Day 1
In the name of the Father, and of the Son, and of the Holy Spirit.
Amen.
Dear Lord, we humbly thank You for choosing to die for us on Good Friday. Help us to always be grateful for Your loving sacrifice.
You chose to come down to earth as a Man out of unfathomable love for each of us. You willingly chose to suffer and die for us on the cross, to open the gates of heaven so that we might one day spend eternity in heaven with You. You have given us Your Church to guide us on the way to heaven.
Please help us to faithfully commemorate Your death on Good Friday, and we particularly ask today that You pour out grace upon Your Church on this holy day.
Help us to serve You faithfully each day of our lives. Give us the grace to grow closer to You at every opportunity.

Reflection for Today
Today we focus on gratitude as we commemorate Christ's sacrifice on the cross. Good Friday reminds us of the depth of Christ's love for us and His willingness to suffer and die for our salvation.
The Bible tells us that "Greater love has no one than this, that someone lay down his life for his friends" (John 15:13). Christ showed us the greatest love by dying on the cross for our sins.
As we pray this novena, we are called to unite our sufferings with Christ's Passion and to grow in gratitude for His redemptive love. Each day helps us to understand a different aspect of His sacrifice and our response to it.
Through this novena, we ask God to help us grow in piety, charity, and the ability to offer our sufferings in union with Christ's sacrifice on the cross.
Remember that Christ's death on the cross opened the gates of heaven for us, and through our prayers and penance, we can help others to come to know and love Him.
